Ideas Board
Members have many good ideas, but our capacity for implementation is limited. This is a place to put good ideas that we believe can strengthen the ITD Alliance. This way the ideas don’t get lost and as funding becomes available we can pursue them.
To submit an idea, use the form below the table. If you are able to fund or contribute your time to make one of these ideas happen, please contact Caryn Anderson, Interim Executive Secretary, at caryn.anderson@itd-alliance.org.

Spanish (and other) language versions of one-page document about the ITD Alliance | A Spanish language version of ITD Alliance materials was requested by one of our Latin American institutional members. It's unlikely we could have all our materials in all languages, but it would be great if we could at least have versions of a 1-page "Quick Facts" document | 2024-08-15 | Caryn Anderson | Proposed | caryn.anderson@itd-alliance.org |
Finding ways for more engagement with/of members (individuals and institutions) | - Survey - or other more interactive formats - to learn more about the expectations of the members and their willingness to contribute - call for working groups (as a very wide format that can reach from one or two meetings up to continuous exchange like the current WGs) - initiating a very easy-access/low-threshold/little-preparation-needed series of events, e.g. a quarterly journal/paper club or the earlier idea of “meet the board at the coffee table” where interactions can take place (question is how large these events will be, 10-20 people would be ideal, it is not necessary that all members participate) | 2024-01-11 | Alexandra Lux | Proposed | n/a |
ITD Alliance website refresh and maintenance | It would be great if we can have a dedicated web designer for the ITD Alliance website. This would alleviate a significant workload from the secretariat. The complexity of this task depends on the skills of those involved, making it either more straightforward or challenging. Therefore, I propose that we communicate to our members that voluntary contributions to the alliance can extend to this activity, i.e. managing and updating the alliance website. | 2023-12-14 | Helena Guimarães | Proposed | n/a |
Maximising member country experience | As an activity for ITD Alliance members and as a strategy to attract more members we might organize short events/workshops to provide country-wise information and connect actors from a country. Board members having most experience in a country could coordinate and prepare a panorama on ITD related policies and activities, involve ITD Alliance members to participate actively and might reach out to other non-members from the respective country to participate. A series of workshops might be interesting and — on the long run — it might support national ITD related policies and activities. People could also learn from strategies/policies in other countries and get inspiration. | 2023-12-08 | Ulli Vilsmaier | Proposed | n/a |
Decolonisation | Place a relevant acknowledgement on the ITD-Alliance website. As a strategic initiative of the ITD-Alliance, organize a multi-country discussion of the issues, using our international connections to address and understand the issues. Think about supplementing this with research. | 2023-12-14 | Steve Fiore | Proposed | n/a |
Social Media and Interaction | The organisation needs a dynamic platform for communication so that it feeds across and into the system. This allows for more agile engagement and will support the generation of ideas around revenue streams, as well as help people pick up roles or provide resources more quickly. It also means that the marginalisation of ideas because of constraints like space, time and immediate relevance is minimised. We don't need to use Facebook! I suggest Slack or Discord or some such. | 2024-10-18 | Maggie | Proposed | maggie@awhiworld.com |
Awareness and Expansion | I think there should be greater awareness that research, knowledge exchange, and inter- and transdisciplinary practice are happening in other spheres than academia. That means providing resources that apply to community (or other) practitioners and also being conscious of communication (forms and language) and structures (e.g., conferences and newsletters) that inadvertently provide barriers to non-academic individuals' attendance. I think reaching out to other transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary networks like CERIT and SEADS would be useful in this context. | 2024-10-18 | Maggie | Proposed | maggie@awhiworld.com |
Publicising the Alliance in our presentations | I often mention the ITD Alliance when I am giving a talk. If the Secretariat was able to provide one powerpoint slide summarising what the ITDA does for its members then perhaps we could all undertake to include it in relevant presentations to different audiences as a way of encouraging new members? | 2024-10-24 | Catherine Lyall | Proposed | c.lyall@ed.ac.uk |
Onboarding process | There should be an onboarding process, so that it becomes easier for new members to get to know the people, activities and values of the Alliance. Ideally, onboarding would involve some creative formats other than reading information, for example an online exhibition of ITD work followed by an onboarding meeting, or an asynchronous miro board activity with visual prompts. This does not necessarily involve a lot of work, just a reorganisation of existing materials about the ITD Alliance. | 2024-10-28 | Ulrike Zeshan | Proposed | mailto:uzeshan1@uclan.ac.uk |
