Travelling to Évora
Since many people will be arriving from outside of Portugal, and Évora’s railway connections are mostly regional, the information below is about getting to the city of Évora from Lisbon– particularly from the Lisbon airport and from the Oriente train station in Lisbon. However, there are two more airports you can consider, in Oporto and Faro. Both cities are connected to Évora by bus or train.
Here are some helpful websites and apps to assist with your travel in getting around Portugal:
- Combios de Portugal for train travel within Portugal.
- Rede Expressos for regional bus travel within Portugal.
- The Omio app for planning your whole trip.
Stay connected! As a friendly reminder, we also suggest making sure that your cell phone service is compatible in Portugal, and that, if travelling from outside of Europe, you exchange for Euros at the airport.
Bus from Lisbon airport
There are direct buses from Lisbon Airport to Évora, so you do not need to go into the city first. You can buy the tickets at the station or purchase them online. Each ticket costs up to €13 (can be cheaper if booked in advance).
Get to the bus stop just outside Terminal 1. This stop is on Avenida Gago Coutinho, where city buses also stop. The trip to Évora takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Train from Oriente station in Lisbon
The train connections from Lisbon to Évora depart from “Oriente” train station, stopping at “Entre Campos” and “Sete Rios”. You can buy the tickets at the station or purchase them online. Each ticket costs €18,50 (1st)class)/ €13,90 (2nd) you can get a promo ticket if bought with at least 5 days in advance
To get from Lisbon airport to the “Oriente” train station you can use:
METRO: To get to the Metro, follow the red metro signs within Terminal 1. Take the red line to “S. Sebastião” to the stop “Oriente”. You can also reference the metro website to help plan your trip.
TAXI: There are Taxis waiting at the Airport exit. The trip duration will depend on the traffic but at best it will take about 5 minutes to get to “Oriente” and cost about. €5 – €8. Only some taxis accept cards, so having cash (euros) on hand is recommended.
Car
There are several car rental options available at the Lisbon Airport. The fastest way to go to Évora is to get the highway A12 direction SUL (Setúbal), follow to A6 direction Évora.
Accommodation
We recommend that you reserve your accommodations early. Évora has been named a European Capital of Culture for 2027, so accommodation will fill up quickly.
